Business Development & Strategies

The Access Team works with Silicon Valley Nano Ventures and associated consultants to provide consulting services for the development and implementation of business strategies.

Our focus is mainly North America and Asia, although we have a rapidly growing network in Europe and the Persian Gulf.

The focus for business strategy is the business model, including the revenue model; that is the target markets, the target products, the manufacturing, marketing and sales process, the team required to ramp revenue, the gates that have to be crossed and barriers to overcome, etc.

Business development involves identifying and creating relationships with sales and marketing partners and with OEM and major corporate partners.

The preparation of the funding documents usually involves some work on business strategy and business development, as investors prefer to have initial feedback from prospective customers regarding the company's product/market plans and its business and revenue model.

Standard business models for companies include:

  • Engineering Consulting / Consulting Services
  • IP Developer / Licensing / Incubation
  • Product Company - Direct Sales
  • Product Company - Channel Sales
  • Product Company - OEM component sales
  • Product Company - captive vendor to largeco

Start-up and early-stage companies are usually opportunistic and may adopt a combination of business models, direct sales to some customers, joint venture and IP licensing with major corporate OEMs, etc. - and often transition from one model to another - one common model is moving from engineering consulting to a product model. Over time the start-up either focuses on one model or develops divisions or business units that specialize in one model.
